Staying Inspired : Sapna Reddy Photography

In days when anybody with a DSLR considers themselves a photographer, here is somebody, despite being an immensely good photographer still calls herself a “Learner”. Welcome to the Staying Inspired series starting with an interview with Sapna Reddy, a California based Photographer.

A bit about Yourself
I am from California and pursue photography as a hobby. I have been shooting seriously for close to two years now and tend to focus mostly on people and landscapes. The images that portray the symbiosis of man and nature are what appeal to me and what I tend to indulge in the most.

Who or what influenced you to become a photographer?
Having a sense of adventure for the outdoors and the intrinsic nature of curiosity for cultures and places, I have travelled through the world. While doing so I began to take pictures mainly as memoirs to my travels. When I shared these images with family and friends, they encouraged me to share them with a wider audience for their interesting nature. That is how the photography page on Facebook was born and I started sharing my pictures. Seeing the wonderful response to the pictures, inspired me to pursue photography and to try to improve on that skill to the best of my abilities. In May of 2010, I got my first DSLR as a birthday present. Since then I have been shooting extensively and with the purpose of making every image I take better than the previous one. In landscape photography, my work is influenced by Ansel Adams, Galen Rowell, Guy Tal,  Jim Patterson and Michael Freye.

Are you self-taught or did you attend a school for photography?
I have had no formal instruction in photography. However I have been fortunate in coming across willing and able teachers in this field. Learning under various mentors each specializing in their own genre of photography has been a very rewarding experience. I tend to ask a lot of questions and seek feedback for my images on a constant basis. When I receive suggestions, I try to implement them and resubmit my work for review in an ongoing evaluative process. That has been the main algorithm to my learning process. Continue reading
